Cutting the Cost of Living

We can create a society where everyone has what they need to live a good life. Where all Victorians can afford the essentials and plan for their future.

Right now the cost of living is sky-high and wages continue to go backwards. Everyday more people are struggling just to make ends meet.

While Victorians struggle, the big banks and profiteering corporations continue to make record profits, further driving up the cost of living.

People across the state, including right here in Prahran, have told me that along with rent and bills, food is one of the biggest costs their struggling with.

People are struggling to afford food because the profiteering supermarkets are jacking up their prices – and the Victorian Labor Government is doing nothing to stop them.

While everyday Victorians struggle to feed themselves and their families, the supermarket duopoly – Coles and Woolworths – are making billions in profit. They’re increasing their profit margins and making you pay more than you need to.

The Greens and I are pushing the Labor Government to take on the supermarket duopoly to cut the cost of food for everyone.

As a first step, we’re calling for a parliamentary inquiry into making food more affordable and stopping supermarket price gouging. To push Labor to support our inquiry we need to show them just how important this issue is to Victorians.

The Vic Labor Government has the power to stop supermarkets from ripping people off, but right now they’re choosing not to use it. Instead they’re continuing to side with profiteering corporations at the expense of everyday people.

Let’s make sure the government knows we won’t stand for their inaction.
