Sam Hibbins to ask the Minister for Housing —
With regards to the Bangs Street redevelopment, will there be solar panels on the buildings; if so, what will be the size of the system.
Response from the Minister for Housing-
I thank the Member for Prahran, for their question regarding the new homes at the Bangs Street, Prahran site. I note the members interest in this project that will deliver more homes for more Victorians including those wishing to make Prahran their home.
The Bangs Street Prahran project is one of four sites that forms part of our first Ground Lease Model, which will deliver 1,110 new homes in Flemington, Brighton and Prahran. At the Bangs Street site, this includes 445 new homes, including 228 social homes, boosting social housing at the site by 90 per cent.
These homes have been designed to achieve a 5-star Green Star rating and a 7-star NatHERS average rating. This means that the energy needed to heat and cool the new homes will be around a quarter of the energy that was needed for the old homes.
Solar PV panels will be located on the building roofs across the site, and the total system capacity will be 120kW. All renters will be able to utilise the power generated, which will reduce electricity costs to tenants and their reliance on importing mains power from the grid.
