Mr Hibbins to ask the Minister for Public Transport —

When will low floor trams be available along routes 67 and 3/3a.

Response from the Minister for Public Transport-

I thank the Member for Prahran for his question.

Low floor trams comprise around 40 per cent of the tram fleet, and due to the increased passenger capacity of low-floor trams, they currently operate on routes with high patronage demand.

The Victorian Government is improving accessibility, safety and comfort across the public transport network to ensure every Victorian can get to where they need to go. That is why the government is investing $1.85 billion for 100 low-floor Next Generation Trams which will be rolled out across Melbourne from 2025 and are being designed in consultation with accessibility groups.

This investment adds to the 100 low-floor E-Class trams which are already in service. Low-floor E-Class trams provide audio and visual information, and dedicated spaces for passengers who use prams or mobility aids.

Once delivered, these new trams will enable the retirement of older high-floor trams and allow you to make accessible connections to other routes across the network.
